Q: How do I purchase swim lessons?

A: Lessons are purchased by session. Session lengths may vary depending on child's age and/or location. You may purchase multiple, consecutive sessions at a time to receive discounts. Please refer to the pricing page for more information.

Q: What is Aquatic Adventures?

A: Aquatic Adventures is a Swim School.
We offer:

  • Infant/Toddler Survival Swim Lessons
  • Learn to Swim group lessons
  • Adapted Swim Lessons
  • Private lessons

Our unique program was designed by founder Mary Kerr to provide a simple, effective, technique that builds upon basic survival skills to develop strong, confident swimmers.

Q: How often do we come?
A: Lessons are twice a week on Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday.

Q: What if my child does not like it?
A: It is not uncommon for children who are beginners to say they don’t like lessons. Learning to swim can be a scary concept and we will work with your child to overcome this feeling, gain comfort, and build confidence. This process may take some time; patience and encouragement from parents is essential in helping children through this stage.

Q: I don’t want my child to cry
A: Children, especially young children, do not have the communication skills to tell us how they feel. Often, feelings such as fear, anxiety, frustration, and separation are communicated through tears. We understand this process and will work with your children to become comfortable with us and in lessons. Once again, patience and encouragement are important for helping children feel more at ease.

Q: Can I watch?
A: We want our swim lesson time to be as safe and productive as possible. To reduce distraction for the instructor and allow the children to build a relationship, parents are not allowed on the pool deck. We have a viewing area and will invite parents in on occasion to see the progress they have made.

Q: How will I know about my child’s progress?
A: Instructors are available after each class for questions and feedback. We will also hand out evaluation cards at the end of each session for parents and students to see the improvements made.

Q: Will we always have the same instructor?
A: Aquatic Adventures strives to create a consistent environment where young children can gain comfort and confidence. We work hard to keep kids with the same instructor during the current level they are in. However, there are times when instructors and/or students must change schedules. All Aquatic Adventures Instructors have been trained to teach the same way and will work with your child to help transition.

Q: How long will it take for my child to learn to swim
A: As with any skill, learning to swim takes time. We would not expect our child to be a beautiful dancer or a skilled soccer player in just a few months, nor should you expect this with swimming. While we do expect to see consistent progression and mastery over time, each child is an individual and they learn at different rates based on, age, size, development, maturity, fears and consistency.

Q: What if my child is not progressing?
A: At Aquatic Adventures, we take our teaching seriously and the progress of each student is important to us. Our job is to teach your child to be a strong, confident swimmer. If a child is not progressing as they should, has hit a wall, or is struggling with a concept, we will discuss this with the parent and do an evaluation with an instructor supervisor. The instructor will then work with the supervisor to help the student move forward. Sometimes, the Supervisor will advise booster lessons. Booster lessons are additional 15-minute, private lessons (1-4 depending on the need) where the instructor can focus on helping the child master the skills they are struggling with. There is no charge for booster lessons.

Learned skills vs. Mastered skills
Aquatic Adventures is dedicated to the development of confident, strong swimmers. We do not progress children unless they have mastered the necessary skills for the next level. Children can learn skills quickly, but mastery comes when they can repeatedly do a skill properly with confidence.

Q: When should I stop lessons?
A: We advise that ALL children complete the four levels of S.W.I.M. This ensures a child has solid skills and endurance to be a strong recreational swimmer.

Q: What do I need to bring?
A: Children ages 4 and up will need a swim suit, towel, and goggles if they want them. Goggles should not cover the nose. Children under 4 should bring a swim suit, towel and must have three layers if they are not COMPLETELY potty trained: 1. Disposable swim diaper 2. Non-disposable swim diaper 3. swim suit

Q: Where does my child start?
A: Starting levels are determined by age, development and current skills. Refer to our programs for descriptions or contact us for help.

Q: Are survival swim lessons abuse?
A: As parents we are often faced with the difficult decisions on what is best for our children. Teaching your children about the dangers around them is an important part of keeping them safe. If your child was crying because they wanted to play in the street would let them?

Children are naturally curious and sometimes drawn to hazardous things such as the hot stove, electrical outlets, etc.

We know these are dangerous and work hard to teach them about these dangers and how to be safe.

Infant/ toddler survival programs are teaching the same skills parents try to teach every day: understand the hazards around you and learn the skills you need to safely navigate through them.
